Tom Leschorn Custom Mini #25 !!
Tom and I were friends. We set up at numerous shows together, went fishing together and remained close until his death. I even bought his (and Mary's) old house in Orlando...(Traded him Randalls for the down payment) I remember Tom working on these minis. He started with #10 blanks, making them his own as he went along. Probably 4-6 were made, total. This was years before the Randall shop ever thought of offering a mini Trapper!
Telltale signs of Tom's genius show through on this knife. Tom ground down the center section of the Randall shop-supplied thumb notches, choosing to stipple the top of the blade instead! The spacers were exactly the same as the early Model #25's, i,e, they were 'not' metal spacers. Some of the spacer age is bleeding through (and over) onto the hilt and butt cap. This is easily buffed away but I chose to leave it.
The entire blade has been made slightly smaller. Tom's re-grind of the lines is perfect! He also added one of his trademarks: The mystery butt cap installation! Tom would epoxy and pin the butt cap or back-bore a hidden nut, threading the tang and affixing the but so that nothing was exposed. Check it out! Pretty nice, huh?
I have included a side-by-side photo of Tom's mini, alongside a #10-3'...just for comparison. I hope this type of extremely scarce piece finds a home on your collector's shelf. Thanks for coming by and keep searching...
