Randall Model #18-7 1/2 inch
Hi folks,
The Randall Model #18 came about during (and probably 'because of') the VietNam War. The sawteeth atop the blade was a paramount tool to extract yourself out of a downed aircraft. Your keen cutting edge would still be intact. The hollow handle could be outfitted with...well: Whatever you can come up with!
The new Model #18's also have the option of a knurled handle. Although most #18's that are put in service for their intended ones have a handle wrapped with all types of arrangemants, it is still a good idea to have that knurling...just in case. Just in case you use everything over it and still need to secure a steady grip on your survival knife. Just in case you need such a surface to strike the wooden, waterproof matches you stored inside the handle.
The brass butt cap has several purposes also. Observe the 'o' ring, which keeps your tube water tight and dirt-free. Observe the smooth, flat, polished end of the butt cap. It can be used as a signaling mirror. The compass, located inside, speaks for itself.
Wrap all of this up and slide into the most versatile sheath that Randall provides, the Model 'C' type, and you're good to go! The 'C' style sheath allows for belt carry, attatchment to a jump harness or Mae West and can be inverted and rigged up to outside shoulder carry. GI wires can be inserted into a pair of the holes on the back of the sheath and it can then be carried on a canteen belt.
