Randall Korean War Smitty!
Hi folks,
The daughter of the Marine who carried this in Korea has asked me to sell it for her. I have no idea exactly 'how many' of the Smithsonian Bowies were carried in Korea but this could possibly be the only one for these reasons:
* The Iron Mistress didn't come out until 1952
* It took a bit of time before Bo even forged one of them!
* The Korean War was over, end of July, 1953
* Moore sheath with lucite snaps were made for a small period of time
* Brazed lugs on the hilt!
* Brass tang but!
* 'HOW' many Marines (or others, for that matter) would have ordered a 3+ pound knife for
a duty weapon?
OK: I have a photo of this fine, brave young man, in country, holding his Thompson. All of the above but at a bargain price should make this big...bad...boy an attractive treasure for the serious collector! The Korean War is...BY FAR...the hardest theatre of battle in which to find a Randall Made Knife, purposely built and made for it's fighting military! Here's why:
* A good many servicemen who fought the war used hunting/camping styled knives (Per Bob Gaddis)
* Many soldiers, sailors and Marines who fought were W.W. II veterans who used RMKs from that theatre of war!
I hope you can appreciate what it is being offered here. I'll give it a couple of days and if it should not sell,,,'BAM'!: Off to The Captain's 'STASH'!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
* Randall Model #12-11 inch
* The SMITHSONIAN BOWIE Model!
* Hand forged carbon steel blade
* O1 Swedish tool steel used
* 11 inch blade length
* Extra heavy 3/8 inch blade stock
* A Bowie-shaped blade
* Top edge is sharp!
* Modeled after the 'IRON MISTRESS' of WB movie fame (1952)
* Heavy (brazed) brass lugged double hilt
* Wide 5 spacer pattern
* Leather handle
* Commando-shaped handle
* Duramin butt cap
* Brass butt cap nut
* Clarence Moore sheath!
* Lucite Randall snap!
* Ordered in 1952 and served in Korea!
* NUFF SAID!
