Randall Model #8-4, OLD STYLE-1 of 1 !!
Hi folks,
I was fortunate enough to obtain some of this old (SE Florida) Lignum Vitae from a couple of local sources over the past decade. I have made up about 50 Randall knives, in all, and am down to the final 12 pieces. All of the remaining wood will go to a numbered set I plan to make up over the next 3 years. They are going in my collection, aka 'The Captain's Stash', and are not for sale. This little number here is, however. I will list the particulars below. I have not made one up like this before nor since! It is a '1 of 1' and drop-dead gorgeous! I hope you like it and that it will find a new home with a collector.
Lignum Vitae is the most dense hardwood in the world. It has been used on nuclear submarines and in the bottom of the Hoover dam! Seriously tough stuff! Lignum Vitae Key, in the Florida Keys, along with a small area of the Bahamas is the only known sources for this original LV. There is another facsimile from Argentina but it is not the same wood and looks and smells entirely different.
