Early Tom Leschorn Model #3-6 inch!!
I once traded Tom & Mary Leschorn a handful of Randall knives as a deposit on a house he sold me in Orlando, Florida. Tom and I traveled to and from gun & knife shows together, fished together and became close friends over the years. I miss him a great deal.
This early work of Tom's is a Model #3-6 inch. It was given to Tom (well...not given...but Tom aquired it from the Randall shop) as a blade only 'KIT' knife, if you will. Tom, along with Gail White, were the only two people, besides Tommy Bish, who were allowed to complete these Randall knives with the shop's blessings. Tom & Gail both used black & white spacers a good bit of the time.
The brass hilt, butt cap 'and' exposed tang nut were one of Tom's trademarks as well. That man really liked his hardware to match! The handle is ebony, one of Tom's favorite materials. It shows some slight signs of cracks as I have tried to illustrate in a close-up.
The ivory inlays portray big horn sheep as well as a big brownie, chomping down on a salmon! Quite an exceptional, early piece.
Maurice Johnson hand-tooled the sheath and Tom re-finished it. The period-correct white stone can be seen. All and all: A fabulous package! I hope you folks enjoy it!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
