Randall SERGEANTS Model with a NASA connection
Folks,
Randall knives are historically significant in many ways. I could write page after page about the famous people and events throughout the history of the past 3/4 of a century with Randall Made Knives connections. Most of you already know this and there are other folks who have covered the subject far better than I. I do have an historic tidbit here for you however. I hope you like it.
As many already know, I designed a custom Randall, designated The MISSION MEMORIAL with historic ties to Cape Canaveral and NASA. The handles of these Randall knives were assembled out of salvaged NASA G-3, G-10 or various micartas, retreived from the demolition of the electrical and electronic insulators of Launch Pad #39 complex. The construction took place after the Challenger shuttle disaster, allowing NASA to upgrade and improve safety and security for missions to come.
This project is and has been sold out. The particular insulators used for those knives (Randall Model #12-9, #14 grind knives) was 1 1/2 inch diameter. There were only enough pieces to offer 86 of those fine knives...'BUT'...there were a few other pieces of insulator material, smaller in size, that could be made up into other Randall knife models. Below is a case in point:
This Randall Sergeants Model, with NASA brown insulator material used for it's handle, can be yours if you like this idea. I was fortunate enough to be at the Randall shop a few weeks back and captured a couple of photos of this knife, prior to assembly! I have included those shots, along with a few of the finished product. Please take a minute to check them out. You just might like what you see.
